Current Moon Phase

Next New Moon in Taurus: 11th May

Phases of the Moon

New Moon

Waxing Crescent

Waxing Crescent

New beginnings

The Science: During a new moon, the Moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun, so it cannot be seen. The dark side of the moon is facing us.

The Woo Woo: This is a time for wiping the slate clean and starting afresh. Now is the time to start new projects and plan for the month ahead. Now is the time to retreat and recharge, and release anything you would like to let go of, physically and emotionally.  Spend some time reflecting on this, alone if possible. You may feel introverted during a new moon. You may feel inclined to cancel social plans and self-isolate.

To do: Set intentions for the upcoming month!

New Intentions

The Science: The sun starts moving closer to the moon, so it is becoming illuminated again on the right hand side. The time when the moon is growing from a new to a full moon is called waxing. Crescent means less than half the moon is illuminated.

The Woo Woo: Now is the time to focus on the ‘why’ of your intentions. Why did you choose the goals that you did? What outcome do you desire? After recharging under the new moon, you are ready to plant the seeds of your inventions and wishes.

To do: Make sure your list of intentions for this lunar phase are somewhere visible. Do some work on your self-confidence. Let the current moon phase benefit you!

Action

The Science: The right half of the moon is illuminated, as the sun and moon sit side by side in the sky. The moon is one quarter of the way through its cycle.

The Woo Woo: Now is the time to make some decisions. We may start feeling some resistance or hurdles to our intentions. This is a time for hard work, following your new moon retreating and reflecting time. Now is the time to be flexible, as decisions might need to be made at a moment’s notice, and your plans might need to change. Do not lose sight of your intentions or be steered off track.

To do: Make use of your journal, and keep a daily to-do list.

Refinement

The Science: The moon is still in its waxing stage, meaning the illuminated side is growing, from right to left. Gibbous means that we have passed the first quarter stage and more than half of the moon is illuminated. Because the moon is getting brighter, it can more easily be seen during the day.

The Woo Woo: Now is the time to refine and tweak your goals and your wishes. Much might have changed since you first set them. Is there anything you need to edit or let go of?  It is the time to pay attention to details. Don’t resist change during this phase.

To do: Practice mindfulness, and a whole lot of self-care.

Harvest

The Science: The moon is now on the opposite side of the Earth from the sun, we see its fully illuminated side.

The Woo Woo: Now is the time to seal your intentions. New opportunities may manifest themselves. Stay open-minded to them.

Because the moon and the sun are on opposite sides of the Earth, they are in opposite Zodiac signs. We may feel pulled in two directions as a result. It is definitely an emotional time.

To do: Take a moon bath, put your crystals outside or on a window sill to recharge and cleans in the full moonlight, put water outside in glass bottles to collect moon water.

Gratitude

The Science: Waning means the moon’s illuminated side is declining as me move from from full to new moon. Gibbous means that the illuminated side is still larger than half of the moon. The illuminated side appears on the left hand side of the moon.

The Woo Woo: Following our harvest at the full moon, now is the time to reflect inwards and focus on what we are grateful for. You should be reaping the rewards of all your hard work over the last few weeks, and you should be seeing some results towards the achievement of your goals and wishes.

To do: Treat a loved one to a gift, but be careful not to spend more than you can afford.

Forgiveness

The Science: This is the opposite phase to the first quarter. The left half of the moon is now illuminated. The illuminated side will continue to decrease as we approach the next new moon.

The Woo Woo: Now is the time to forgive yourself of all the hiccups you have faced during this lunar cycle. It will not help you to beat yourself up. Release what is no longer serving you, any hurt or frustration or anger.

To do: Cleanse - your space, your wardrobe, yourself.

Surrender

The Science: Waning means the moon’s illumination continues to shrink, and crescent means that less than half of the moon is illuminated. The part that is still illuminated appears on the left hand side.

The Woo Woo: We continue to let go of the emotional and physical clutter that no longer serves us. You may feel drained, so take time to rest and recuperate. You are gathering your strength for the next lunar cycle.

To do: Surrender to the universe. Practice self-care.
